cox black widow tank
i have a question about my cox black widows tank, its an airplane engine so i thought it would be fine if i put the thread under airplanes, but anyway the intake outlet into the crankcase right behind the reed is noticeably larger than any other tank that i have seen, i dont know if its me or what, i know its larger than bernies BW tanks. i dont have a camera at the time so i cant post a picture of it.

Re: cox black widow tank
It's been drilled for better airflow. I can't remember off hand what it's supposed to be however, it's supposed to be larger than a baby/golden bee.
I am going to move this into Cox discussions for more exposure.

Re: cox black widow tank
Good catch. The Cox built Black Widow not only has a larger venturi inlet, but also a larger venturi outlet than other stunt tanks. It's tapered, so I don't know if a smaller one can be properly reamed to match the old ones or not. That would probably ruin the reed seat too.looperdude wrote:...the intake outlet into the crankcase right behind the reed is noticeably larger than any other tank that i have seen, i dont know if its me or what, i know its larger than bernies BW tanks. i dont have a camera at the time so i cant post a picture of it.

Re: cox black widow tank
I've drilled out baby bee tanks with a 3/64 drill and realized phenomenal performance increase (Baby tanks have a really small passage). Since the tapered portion is not touched, the reed seat is not damaged. The aluminum is soft enough that using a hex shank bit with fingers only works quite easily.
I have done this to a "baby stunt" tank Bernie sells. This is my "baby stunt bee" which is going onto my baby ringmaster after I reattach the wing to the fuselage. (The old glue parted.) The motor is about as strong as a black widow.
I have had better success mating this to an unaltered plastic BW back plate from Bernie or Matt than trying to open the port up more. I think this has to do with fuel draw.
