Is Tee Dee 0.049 crankcase is the same with Tee Dee 0.051?

Is Tee Dee 0.049 crankcase is the same with Tee Dee 0.051?
I have Tee Dee 0.049 case NIP, and thinking it to use in Tee Dee 0.051 engine which has ugly plier mark on crankcase.
Any suggestion / expert opibnion, are they the same, or compatable to use?
thanks

Should be a straight swap. There are differences between early and later cases so check to be sure the crank fits correctly.

Aha! I was trying to do a case swap yesterday but the crank was too short for the "new" case. So which case is newer, the short one or the long one?cribbs74 wrote:Should be a straight swap. There are differences between early and later cases so check to be sure the crank fits correctly.

Not sure which is shorter early or new. However I can say the later crankcase will have a "2" stamped on the mounting ear.

There should be no difference. By how much was the crank too short?
Re: Is Tee Dee 0.049 crankcase is the same with Tee Dee 0.051?
With the driveplate pressed on the crank will not turn even with no shim.

Perhaps the drive-plate bottoms out the crank too far in?
Re: Is Tee Dee 0.049 crankcase is the same with Tee Dee 0.051?
I compared cases side by side and one is about 1/32 shorter.

As far as I ever knew they had the same part number. Stranger things have happened.

Mud explained this a few days ago. I have no clue where the thread went.

If they have the same crankshaft, which they no doubt do, the front bearing race will be in the same place. I would check that and do it. Any extra bearing length is unused anyway.Cox International wrote:JPvelo wrote:I compared cases side by side and one is about 1/32 shorter.

Re: Is Tee Dee 0.049 crankcase is the same with Tee Dee 0.051?
I can't find the thread, but according to Mud, Cox thickened the web on the crank In the 70's which required the crankcase to be modified. That is why the early crankcases are blank and the newer ones have a "2" stamped into the mount plate.
So it is possible you have a late crank and an early case or visa versa.

i'm not sure they have the same crankshaft, but i have both old and new and i will compare as soon as i have time. i recently traded a newer, (marked II), crankcase and kept the crankshaft. i also have an older TD i need to take apart and clean. hd

Re: Is Tee Dee 0.049 crankcase is the same with Tee Dee 0.051?
I've never noticed the "2" but I'll look at mine now. I want a new TD but the prices are high on the Bay right now. Maybe after Christmas they'll drop.
I wish Bernie could make them. He might just be able to sell enough of those to justify it. There are thousands of members with aging TDs over at RCGroups. I know I'd buy one. I'd like to have a couple of them. I run the crap outta the ones I have.

Anybody see TD 0.05RC Dive plate on ebay
Anybody see TD 0.05RC drive plate selling on ebay.
I am watching every week for 6 months and never see them. It is non-anodize (TD 0.049 drive plate is gold anodized).

I seriously doubt that you will even come across one.
However, we are presently getting all the TD .049 parts re-quoted to see if we can justify manufactiring the engine and, if we do, we will have the drive-plates, non-anodized until we send them out for anodizing.
We are hoping to be able to offer a TD 049 for $79, entailing a $40 cost, but it's a long shot as crankcase, cylinder and piston are going to be killer. So far, we have not found anyone capable of assembling the conrod to the piston.
Re: Is Tee Dee 0.049 crankcase is the same with Tee Dee 0.051?
Bernie are the Tee Dee cylinders/pistons you sell now(SKU: 490CYTD) in short supply? If so I need to go ahead and get some. I've been hoping your Tee Dee production would happen, as I definitely would rather buy yours, instead of from eBay.Cox International wrote:...However, we are presently getting all the TD .049 parts re-quoted to see if we can justify manufactiring the engine and, if we do, we will have the drive-plates, non-anodized until we send them out for anodizing.

Re: Is Tee Dee 0.049 crankcase is the same with Tee Dee 0.051?
Rusty,
The TD cylinders are not in short supply yet as we are using the Surestart cylinders, which we send to Ronald Valentine to modify. We should have enough Surestart engines to last us another 3 years, after which we will have to look into manufacturing more if we don't want the Cox era to end completely, as engines are our core product; which drives parts and accessory sales.
I have farmed out the complete set of drawings to several USA, German and Chinese vendors and we shall see.
I just won a TD 049 on eBay for $86, no box and accessories; to send parts samples to the best vendor and that is pretty well the going rate these days.
Problem is small runs of 1,000 engines. A run of 5,000 will likely bring the retail price down to $59 but I don't have access to that kind of capital and, if I did, would use it to make a variety of parts and accessories; where margins are higher than on TD engines.

I was going to say that a Medallion 049 driveplate is the same. It is a non adonised version of the the TD but I have just checked and the TD 05 driveplate in slightly longer (thicker).
