Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
I just got back from taking Brandon to football practice. Anyway, I hope you liked my teaser. Anyone have a link to the owners manual? I assume it uses a 30:1 mix like all other 2-cyl engines use.
Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
30:1 Should work. Our chain saws call for 40:1. Some of our weed eaters use 50:1. I put 16:1 in my Lawnboy.

Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
Yeah, I would say 16:1. Crack open a nice clean 8oz can of Lawn-Boy Generation II All-Season Ashless 2-cycle oil with added stabilizer (or an equivalent 2-cycle oil) to one gallon of gas. Or do it the old fashioned way and get a bottle of 30w oil and put that in your gas. My 1968 Snow Pup asks for a 16:1 ratio of 30w oil, I have done it, works alright, but I have been using LB oil in it for the last 2 years.

Got the bar and chain on. The pull handle has been replaced. Other then that, I need to double check the fuel lines as 2 lines are not connected. I'll have to figure out where they go.
Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
Be sure the fuel lines can tolerate gasahol.WingingIt74 wrote:Got the bar and chain on. The pull handle has been replaced. Other then that, I need to double check the fuel lines as 2 lines are not connected. I'll have to figure out where they go.

Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
Good point. When it was new, I don't think there was unleaded fuel either.
Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
Most definitely you will need "Coxlube" as preventative maintenance. Available here:
http://coxengines.ca/coxlube-after-run-oil.html
which was formulated especially with chainsaws in mind (after all, we live in a logging town).
Imagine doubling the life of that baby for a modest investment - hey, what have you got to lose

Bernie, Is that something new? I don't recall that on your site before. You don't have a pull handle do ya
Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
Those red wooden replacement pull handles must have been popular, this one has one too.

Was watching this one. The best conditioned one I have seen to date, with all of the manuals and tags.
The really rare ones have a picture of a beaver chewing on a piece of wood on the pull start side plate along with the Cox logo.
They have engine vacuum assisted chain/ bar/sprocket oiling, make sure those lines are correct or you will seize the sprocket tip on the bar and peel metal off of the bar with the chain zinging. In a pinch Trravis, you can dribble some 90WT gear oil on the bar and chain when you run it (if).

Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
Anyone know of any copies of the manuals or anything?
Re: Just a Little Teaser :) - My New Cox Chainsaw
BTW, there is a Chainsaw Collector's Forum on-line.
I used information from this source when I "re-habed" my '83 vintage Homelite 240.
The most difficult part was getting the carburetor right but I did it.

There is no sprocket on the tip of the bar.

That's the grand enchalada there. I emailed a guy who bought the last one I seen with manuals about getting copies, no reply back. Emailed the seller of this latest one with copies, we will see.
FWIW, if anyone has copies or originals, I know of two guys who could use one. I have a buck in my wallet that is not doing anything.

Interesting, just checked mine and one has a sprocket and the other does not. apparently a bar swap at one point in its life.

You have one for each hand or do you juggle chainsaws?
