We're gonna run the same fuel and prop as last year: Sig Champion 25% with a Gray 5-3 Cox Prop.
I intend to order the fuel a couple weeks before the race to take our best shot at getting a fresh batch.

I thought you used PowerMaster 30%?

I think PowerMaster was listed as the fuel in the previous races CD'd by Chris. We had (I think) decided to use Champion 25 last year. I had posted the previous year's notes by Chris as a guide to what engines qualified, and that may have been accidentally left in the note. If so, it was my fault, maybe due to a bit of nervousness and I apologize for any confusion.

Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
Here are the rules for the 2013 Tach Race. I'll try to get with Mark and Travis as soon as possible to discuss any new classes.
___________________________________________________________________________________________
Fuel: Sig Champion 25% for all Classes
Prop: Balanced Gray 5-3 Cox
Any combination of Cox parts, reed or rear rotor.
Any porting, grinding, chopping, you think will work.
Any head/glow plug or glowhead, RR-1 or Rear rotor type of rear induction systems are fine.
NO front induction TD/Medallion crank/crankcase. NO Cyclon, VA, &
Norvel stock or modified to reed induction. Intent is that these be Cox-based engines like the Black Widow, Sure-Start, Space Hopper, RR-1, Space Hopper, etc.
___________________________________________________________________________
Any AMA legal Cox rear reed, with tank. Except no Cyclon conversion.
See AMA rules for more info.
__________________________________________________________________________
Novice class open to any unaltered, stock 'Hobby' engine.
This would include, but not limited to: Golden Bee, Babe Bee, Black Widow, Silver Bee, Sure Start, Space Bug, Etc.
Engines excluded would be a Killer Bee or Venom or any modified engine with nonstandard components.
For example: If someone sends in a Black Widow with Tee Dee cylinder and/or Nelson head the engine would be moved to the Mouse 1 category.
Contest Director would have the final determination of class placement.
__________________________________________________________________________
Contestants will send engines (Limit one engine per class) in a returnable box with return label filled out (no priority mail) plus adequate funds to cover return shipping.
Please do keep in mind that this is intended as a "Fun" event and that Travis and I will do our best to give each engine a fair run. We won't have time to do "Deep Adjustments" to attain the absolute maximum RPM, so please attempt to have the engines as "ready-to-run" out of the box as possible.

Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
With Ron's Tee Dee Tach Race being delayed for a few weeks, I wanted to bump this back to the top to avoid any confusion between the two events.
Travis and I will be C.D.'s for the the Original Tach Race this coming January 26th. All of this is the brain child of Mark Boesen and his bud, Chris McMillin, originated over on Mark's .049 Collectors Group to stir up some activity during the winter months.
I hosted the event last year, and will be sharing duties with Travis in this year's event. I've been allowed the use of the big, heated hangar at the airport where I work, so weather should not be a factor. Just in case, though...we'll use the following weekend if something DOES delay us.
I have re-posted the rules back on the first post of this thread, and want to make sure that everyone knows the difference, especially the the newer members who might want to participate.
Please shoot me a note here for more info, and P.M. me for the addresses to use to send engines if you'd like to have a go at it!

Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
Just wanted to bump this back to the top to remind everyone that Travis and I are going to C.D. Mark's Original Tach Race this coming January 26th, with a back-up date of that Sunday, the 27th.
The are several new members who may not know of this little event and they are, of course, invited to participate if they choose to !
Details can be found in the early posts of this thread, and questions are welcome. We are more or less the vehicle for the Tach Race, and I may have to turn to Mark and Chris for direction on answering them, but will be glad to do so.
Anyway, those of you that are gonna play, please get your engines to meat least by mid-week before the race. I will be checking the mail and watching for them all the way through Saturday, but getting them in earlier lets me get good and settled beforehand.
That's it for the moment !

It's finally time. I guess I better cobble something together. I'm looking forward to it. I am an amateur hack compared to some of the other competitors around here. May beginner's luck be with me!

I have one for novice/stock class. Not sure about unlimited. I still haven't broken in my Killer Bee .051.

Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
I am kicking around sending a mouse, but it only have 3-4 tanks of fuel on the piston/cylinder so it is far from "broke" in.
Ahhh...I ain't gonna fly it in the next two months anyways. Just gonna fly bashers in the snow, if anything. I need the addy.

Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
Got this note from Paul over on the .049 Collectors Group. Mark and I had earlier talked about adding some classes to the Original Tach Race, and it still isn't too late to do this if enough folks want to participate. I WILL need help and input on just what the classes will be and the rules and such, but will be more than happy to run it if the members here and there want to have it!

So, Kim, not enough interest in the Stock or Vintage classes you mentioned in your teaser post on Wed Aug 29th? I've got a NIB Killer Bee for the stock class (sorry I'm not lucky/wealthy enough to own a Venom) and last year's trusty Space Hopper for Vintage! Anybody wanna throw their hat/s in the ring/s?
Paul W.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Paul,
If the members want to add another class...or more...I'm up for it! If we can figure out the rules together so that everyone is happy, I'll certainly be happy to give it a try! I've got the whole weekend set aside, and my boss has given the OK for me to use our heated hangar where I work, so the time/ temp factors are a lot more manageable than last year's outdoor Tach Race.
Everybody check in, and I'll coordinate it with Mark !
