Run times?
What are you guys getting for approximate run times on Cox .049's with 5cc and 8cc tanks? I'm asking because I'm thinking of trying a 1/2A plane.
Thanks,
Allen

Re: Run times?
I haven't timed it ( I only ran a BW a couple of times the other day - first nitro engine in a good 25 years), but it depends somewhat on where you are in your CL experience. You will likely at some point not in the too distant future want longer flites then what even the 8 cc will deliver. Just ask RknRusty about his project to install an external fuel tank so he could do the full stunt pattern. The tank was empty at the end if my test runs and they weren't very long runs - I would guess 4 minutes max. But that IS an awfully long time ( at least at first ) to be standing in one spot spinning around, too. An intregal tank certianly makes things a LOT easier, though, both in airframe construction and plumbing.

Re: Run times?
On the test stands, depending on the engine and mixture, I usually get 3-4 minutes out of a 5cc tank and 4-5 minutes out of a 8cc tank.

Then there are the option of tank extenders I think they add 2cc.AT1984 wrote:Thanks for the replies!

Re: Run times?
yep, thats about right. although, my super bee seems to empty its tank a little faster than a normal one.
maybe its because of the dual bypass ports...

Re: Run times?
Never heard of one running on the dater side....
It seems like I get more like 3 minutes on 8cc and 2 on 5cc, or maybe it's just me.

Re: Run times?
I was actually looking at smaller planes when I started out in C/L a few months ago. I'm still a rookie! I'm looking for something simple...a Sig Deweybird, Goldberg Stuntman, etc. I have a "big" plane, too. A Skyray 35.

Dude: Oh, picky, picky, picky! Let's not go there because we ALL make mistakes. Consider the context in which "dater was used.
On my Dumas Airboat w/Surestart & throttle I run a 2 oz. Sullivan tank that gives me LOTS of "run time". The trottle allows me to run until I wish to bring the boat back to shore where I can "kill" the engine with the throttle.

Re: Run times?
thanks! that sounds plausible...two ports = more fuel getting into the engine => faster running, but faster fuel consumption

Doesn't look like you posted anything?
Re: Run times?
Y'all get a lot more than me. With my pickup tube set just above the lower outboard screw, my Black Widows all get 1:40 with an 8cc tank on the test stand. Probably more in the air since the fuel rises up that side of the tank. I seems longer, but I'll time it next time I fly. Or I'll tip the test stand over to simulate C/L flying.

sounds like you have a leak or are running super rich.

When I took my babe bee apart, I found I couldn't get the tube on the bottom, just about 3/4 of the way down. The venturi tube got in the way.
Re: Run times?
that's normal. did you try bending the tube around the venturi?

Re: Run times?
Not running rich or leaky, they all run full speed and steady. Maybe I have my pickup higher up the side than everyone else so it doesn't suck air when it's upside down(which it sometimes does anyway). I'll crank one tonight and make a video so we can get a time on it.nitroairplane wrote:RknRusty wrote:Y'all get a lot more than me. Re: Run times?
ok that would make sense maybe you should just do one run and take it apart so you can see if there is any fuel left.
