Re: colorless black widow
I just checked mine. All silver including the spinner, has a thick wall number 1 cylinder, plastic backplate, and not much compression. (but it is dry) Funny thing, the box has a sticker on it, says "supplied with special piston reset tool", however it is a reset tool for an .020 that is in the box lol
There is no date stamped anywhere inside the box. I would say that mine is an Estes one for sure.

To be a Black Widow needs to be "Black", have a .062" venturi hole in the backplate, stunt tank venting, and dual bypass No.1 cylinder and probably a zero drag starter spring.
It looks to me like it is probably a post 1996 Estes one made from in-completed parts.
I concurr w/warren. The pic is inconclusive.

Yeah, yours is probably an Estes when there is no date. I'm not surprised that Estes would throw in a reset tool that you couldn't use on the supplied engine.
Re: colorless black widow
i hope the seller finds the date. then i would be really happy.

Re: colorless black widow
I'm guessing you're referring to another Rusty, but I have posted about a silver BW on RCG. The plastic backplate is kind of a bummer, but assuming the venturi width (intake and outlet) is right, the depth of the ports is a sure bet. I don't know the depth, but if you compare the width from side to side at the deepest part of the ports with a caliper, it's unmistakably wider than any other dual ported, non-fluted SPI Bee cylinder I know of.GermanBeez wrote:ok folks it's time for another round of our favourite game:

(audience clapping wildly and cheering)
yep, this is what i bought:

is it an authentic colorless widow? i can see it has the stunt tank, but i can't see if the back plate is golden or not...
also, shouldn't the early ones have a no drag starter?
i hope you read this rusty, as i've read in rcu that you have some experience with these exotic bees.
PS: the guy also wrote that it is a CAT #150 on the box, so it should most certainly be one of the older lot.
Sounds like you guys have covered all the other bases I know of.

Re: colorless black widow
it's still a nice engine to me, i'll probably replace the back plate...or leave it as it is.
i mean, just because its newer and might have already been produced in the *st*s era
doesn't mean its ugly or anything
maybe i'll just use it on my c/l pt-19, when it's finished.
i'd bet it'll look great with the big silver mutated BW sticking out of its front!

You fly CL?
I am thinking of Learning.
Re: colorless black widow
i will, soon. btw, i'll leave my colorless widow over in the US, until i or my dad goes over again.
if i would ship it, it would cost around 45$ including customs fee, and that's just too much.

Cool I would prefer 5" because I can run them on my clan.
Hope you do sell some.
Re: colorless black widow
i probably won't need the props anyway. this is what i ordered from miniglowplanes:
black hawk pt-19
6x3 cox nylon prop
2x 60 ft. of original cox dacron line (i know, line drag and so on...)
handle with clips

Re: colorless black widow
unexpectedly, it has just arrived! the box is in great shape, the engine too.
the only odd thing about it is that its crank case smells like fish...
hmmm...i think he ran it somewhere alse than just on once on a test stand
the date on the manual is 1996, so it must be *st*s. it ahs a non-marked cylinder and a plastic
reed retainer (although the tank still accepts circlips.). i'll give you an update and pictures, once its
finished its fuel bath and has been polished a little.

Re: colorless black widow
uh, they are 6*3. they're still in the original box (which appears to be REALLY old)
there are instructions telling you to boil the props to speed up the aging proces... wha??
must've been out of the era when nylon had just been discovered...

Boiling them stress relives the nylon and makes it softer (safer)
