S.M.A.L.L. 2024
Got to Sky Tiger Field on Wednesday afternoon, and cranked out some flights in the still evening air. I was too fatigued to do Top Dawg's first flights, so flew the Micro Draco and the Pietenpol several times.
I snuck in some more warm-up flights with the Piet on Thursday morning, but the winds came up early, so I spent the day visiting and roaming the flight line.
Late in the afternoon, the winds dropped and Top Dawg put in three great flights with its O.S. "Bow Tie" .10 barking away as I tried to imitate a pylon racer. Behaving pretty much the way I expected, the only UN-expected thing was having tiny Ken Willard bail from the Dawg halfway through the second flight...he now sleeps with the grasshoppers!
In no particular order, here are some photos from both days:

Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2024
Thank you guys!
Top Dawg's empty cockpit looks a little lonesome without tiny Ken Willard.
Got a bit of flying done, but the weather is really messing with me. I got to be ready to put stuff under cover, and the winds and rain showers kept my attention.
I DID get two more Top Dawg flights...this time with key fob cameras, but the O.S.' vibration distorted the video. Gonna try again with "selfies sticks"...probably tomorrow.
Still lots of fun!

Kim,
Thank you for sharing the video! S.M.A.L.L. is on my Bucket List. Doug sure has a nice trailer as a mobile store. Lots of stock! Great shots of the field and flightline. Top Dawg is one cool plane, too. Glad you rescued it!

Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2024
Thanks Guys!
This was possibly my least productive trip to S.M.A.L.L.---as far as photos and video go---and I missed several great flights and some cool oddities (such as the "Hoop Plane") just because I didn't grab the video camera quickly enough...could just be that I'm getting old.
It was a moderate turn-out, possibly due to weather predictions, though we were given flyable first days with wind and intermittent storms, but a great Saturday and Sunday.
I drove home promising myself (as usual) that I'd do a better job on the next one...being Fall S.M.A.L.L. in October. One thing will be taking fewer planes, so I can be quicker at taking them to safety when the weather goes sour.
But, on the good side, Top Dawg survived with style, and with a few minor fixes, will be deemed all-around airworthy, and added to the fleet, so there's that.
Thanks again for all the comments.

Kim dear friend, thank you for sharing all these photographs and videos, once again holding the burning torch of one of the most beautiful activities that exist, model airplanes.
I have seen that the place is very nice, really beautiful, so beyond the time (climate) and the fact that you may feel a little more exhausted, it is very good to see you in shape, always interacting with so much enthusiasm.
Congratulations!
I don't know if it's the translator, or I can't interpret, but you say that: did you lose a Ken Willard model?...was it the parasol model? or what was it? and what happened friend?...sorry for my questions, but I'm interested to know what happened.
Thanks again....

Hello Maricio, my translation:
I believe that Kim's model, the Top Dawg lost its pilot, "Ken Willard", possibly the glue had insufficient strength to remain attached during the engine's vibration. Kim's airplane needs the pilot, Lúpin!

Thank you Jorge for your time...beautiful group of friends in this forum!!!, now I understood perfectly, the pilot became detached and ended up in the forest...if it usually happens that a piece ever comes off...look for it Sometimes it's not worth it but sometimes you have to do it no matter what, like what happened to a friend of mine who lost his engine!...after hours of searching, we finally found it...maybe it was a coincidence!

Bob and Kim...maybe it's happening like in many places...the activity itself is losing followers or enthusiasts...it's sad...I don't know if that will be the case here. In my own club there are fewer and fewer of us and in real activity we are 3 people who even have different schedules. I maintained the tractor to cut the grass with a partner and now I have to assemble part of its pulleys, the grass is growing and has to be cut, in short there are few of us and it costs more and the activity in my club decreases a lot.

Hey Mauricio!
George is correct...I had just named the little plastic William's Bro. Brand pilot "Tiny Ken Willard" as an attempt at humor, and tribute to Top Dawg's designer..
I'd intended to modify the pilot to resemble the real Ken Willard---giving it graying hair/eyebrows, glasses, with a little sculpting on his neck and cheeks. I'd purposely glued him "lightly" to allow him to be removed after S.M.A.L.L., but didn't count on the pounding O.S. .10 shaking him loose!
Yes, this is a beautiful place the Sky Tigers have, and they've worked tirelessly to improve it since member/owner David invited them to fly here. They now have electricity run to the field, replacing the big generator they were using to provide power to the flight building. I'd heard they are going to include work to make the lake a bit more accessible for float plane and R/C boat usage.
Should you ever get the chance to visit, we should REALLY try to include a trip to Sky Tiger Field, whether or not a S.M.A.L.L. event is in progress!

Yes, we are a disappearing group of hobbyists. I believe it's just the progression of time and technology. For me, as a kid, ANYTHING that could fly was fascinating and had to be investigated, and the surge of affordable Radio Control equipment in the 1970's was one of the greatest things in my life. It didn't come easy though, there were things to be learned, and skills to be built: all part of the progression to being able to fly. Every tiny success just powered it more.
The Breezy Hill Flyers keep a basic trainer available for prospective pilots to try out but, as President Brian said, "When they see they can't just pick up a transmitter and fly like a seasoned expert, the interest disappears."
But we are still here, and can keep building and flying for as long as our work load and health allows.

Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2024
Hello everyone, it's been a while since my last visit, I haven't lost my interests, I just don't have enough time for my favorite hobby, I've undertaken a lot of big projects at the same time and it's kept me busy more than I anticipated From time to time I come to read here sometimes without even publishing just to read and follow the progress of a certain project that I find interesting I find it a shame what I read here to hear that in certain clubs the number of people is decreasing and that it seems that less and less people are interested in this hobby or perhaps several like me have undertaken large projects leaving little time to take up this hobby flying is so mutch run
