Is this a standard Babe Bee?
Found this on eBay...Does anyone know if this is a standard Babe Bee?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/110736054159?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
If it's something special...Don't snipe my bid!
Thanks!
Allen

It is your standard Thimble-Drome Babe Bee .049. Nice though.

Thanks Jetpack. Does the etched "Thimble Drome" on the tank tell anything about the age of this engine? The listing says "Late 60's".
Thanks!

Yeah, it means that it is from the mid to late 60s. It looks like it is 100% original but you have to inspect the engines sold by controllineengineman closely if you are looking for 100% original engines since he sells a lot of parts built or mixed Cox engines. I did purchase a very early Golden Bee from him that was 100% original so not all engines sold by him are mixed/parts built engines.
Re: Is this a standard Babe Bee?
Super (Silver?) Bee's didn't come around I think until the '70's when the 8cc tanks started comming without its own fill and vent tubes. The backplate became the vent and fill. Before that the only one around with the 8cc tank (not the 5cc Thimble-Drome tank we see in the pic) was the Golden Bee and that had its own vents. I could be wrong.
Here's a question I can't figure out without looking: Did the Golden Bee ever come with a ventless tank like a Super Bee would have?
PS is it time to snipe yet

I have always thought the Super Bee engine was the engine that came in the early P-40 planes. The early Super Bee engines came with P-40 stamped on the cylinder while the later ones came with just a #1 on the cylinder. The P-40 cylinder was the same as the #1 and the #1 was the same as the #1 on Black Widows found today.
I think you are talking about the Silver Bee engine with the non-stunt aluminum 8cc tank.
Re: Is this a standard Babe Bee?
I mean the one that German Dave has he though it was an early babe bee and there was a whole thread about It the a Jacob proved that I was a super bee if you loom in his gallery I think it is there.
Re: Is this a standard Babe Bee?
I wouldn't necessarily be worried about 100% original, as long as it runs.
Found a Texaco, but the anodizing on the tank has turned "pink" for some reason:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Cox-Texaco-049-model-airplane-engine-/250883959824?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a69d96c10
Is it just old, faded anodizing? (then again...it's listed as "new"?)
Jetpack: No, it's not "sniping time" yet!!!

Yes the red anodising fades to ping it happened to a pee wee .020 that I saw and I thought it was a custom job the I asked and he said it had faded.

AT:
If it is I have a "production engine" that looks just like it sans snap starter.
It's a great engine though as it has survived life in a "Miss Unlimited" hydroplane and is still useful today were being kind to an engine is a consideration.

Re: Is this a standard Babe Bee?
Getting back to the original post, yes its a standard single port Babe Bee from the mid to late 60's. Looking at the spinner, i'd guess from a PT-19.
The 'Silver Bee' with 8cc tank was first used on the Cox Spitfire 1966-7(?)
The first cylinder Cox stamped was the 'P-40' cylinder, later changed to '1' was also seen on Space Hopper and RR-1's
