How the COX 010 TeeDee tank backplate seals

How the COX 010 TeeDee tank backplate seals
At least once I accidentally ruined the tank backplate on one of my 010 TeeDee-s by overtightening the central screw..if forced too much, either the thread inside the tank will be stripped, or the backplate center around the screw cracks.
Playing with my new 010-s acquired recently brought my attention to the backplate which in fact is not flush with the rim of tank body. It means that even if the central screw is not tightened excessively - just enough but not too much - once the engine is pressed by the 2 mounting screws to the plane bulkhead, the tank backplate will contact the bulkhead first, and the paper gasket between the tank and backplate is pressed to seal well when the mounting screws are tightened..so tighten the central screw lightly, the mounting screws will do the rest of the job for a good seal. (It is not meant to recommend the overtightening of 2 mounting crews either, because that may damage the tank as a whole, or, loosen up the central screw where fuel leakage around the screw head may start)
So those who have ruined a 010 backplate before may consider this...I wonder if it was an intentional design feature implemented by COX, or, just accidental?

I think that you can make a backplate from 1.5 mm aluminum sheet. In this case screw head will not be flush with backplate, so another piece of aluminum sheet need for mounting tne engine.
Screw can be placed in a piece of aluminum tubing.

Yes, Levent, yours is another good "aftermarket" solution..only when the thread in the plastic tank is stripped is when only a full t tank replacement can help

If screw thread stripped... Can't find any solving.. a nut can not be epoxied, filling the cavity with epoxy can not be made... so best is to not unscrew that screw oftenly.

Yes. Good design, Levent..the head of the backplate screw should be countersunk to make it flush with the engine firewall, or the firewall should have a hole drilled in the center where the screw head will sit.

If threads stripped then forget the screw and seal backplate with silicone & clog the screw hole with a piece of plastic, rubber etc. Does it work?

Quite right, and a o-ring under screw head is good.

I love the way you are developing this hand-made isometric design, Levent!!!

Re: How the COX 010 TeeDee tank backplate seals
Good design for repair, Levent. I didn't realize one could break the back plate screw mount. Stored for 35 years, I found my Tee Dee .020 had a broken back plate. I tried gluing, but that failed. Fortunately, Bernie @Cox International had the replacement part. Plus, after, I bought his aftermarket anodized red aluminum extended capacity tank for it, upgrading it.
But the .010 parts are indeed rare, so it is good you found a way to repair to restore its usefulness.

That's the gorilla in the room. Even with care, with so many of the plastic parts on older items becoming brittle to the point of disintegration, restoration or rebuilding becomes a challenge.
