Wish I was still nuts about this stuff, I would drive over and pick it up.

Bob, that looks like one of the displays that Bill Mohrbacher owned. It wouldn't surprise me if it was. He would bring stuff like this to all of the swap meets, Brodak's, and many other get together shows in the tri-state area. I miss Bill, he was a encyclopedia of knowledge and wasn't afraid to take a minute to explain.

If you look closely in the upper corner it shows who built it and when. Yeah, could be one of the Displays that Bill used to carry around to engine shows and Swap meets. It will probably go for more than the starting bid, as at $3000 it's only about $50 per item listed in the box. I'd only bid on it if there was enought room to sleep in it, cause it'd be my new home after the wife found out!!
PS:just for giggles check out the other things this seller has for sale....a $825 book ???

The Morton M-5 radial is $1500 by itself so this is quite a bargain

The Morton has it original prop, it could go very high. The props are very rare. I’m out of town on vacation or I would throw a bid at that. The twins sparkers are valuable also

it would be a shame to separate it - but? group buy, and split the boards?

That's my biggest fear, someone breaking it up for profit. Made a bid making that option less likely.

That is quite a collection. They all look to be in pretty good condition too.

Some private listing bidder nibbled his way up seven times to exceed my $4100 bid. Hopefully he's a collector and will not break up the collection.

In my opinion, all this will have to go back to a museum It's sad now museums only take donations I'm afraid it's to sell them Separately

I can absolutely understand the desire to keep a collection 'together"
as we (hopefully a long time from now) step off this, our mortal coil? Our grandkids with no attachment? see our collections, our passions? ... as quick money
With vintage cars and motorcycles, I've been happy to see 2 or 3 pieces staying 'together' even when the entire collection cannot. What will happen when Jay Leno goes? he has hundreds of irreplaceable cars.. are his kids gonna keep them?
As someone else mentioned, Museums only take donations. Even worse? ....we see museums closing, and selling bits off
I hope someone can keep this all together.
If not - i hope they can at least keep some of the panels together to bring to shows and contests

Re: $3000 to start and may be worth it. "Free shipping"
I may bid again, but I think I have it to a point where the price about equals the value of the whole and it would be more beneficial to keep it intact than to break it up and sell the individual pieces.
That said, I would love to see it hang in my humidity controlled basement and transfer to my son who shares my passion. Beyond that I don't know. A few billion years from now it will all be cosmic dust anyway.

I would have no problem breaking it up, it’s kind of a hodgepodge anyway.

Re: $3000 to start and may be worth it. "Free shipping"
I feel zero regret at missing it. I looked at each engine and came up with a value less than my $4100 bid. While I hoped that I would win it, now I feel pretty sure that the collection will not be broken up and sold individually.
Those that follow my posts know that I have a certain regard for the previous owners of my restorations, rebuilding them as the original owner/builder imagined. I would have done the same for this fellows effort.
Some were just a bag of sticks, others just needed a tail section, all were gratifying.
It also crossed my mind that there is a "Works" Mini for sale here locally for $2500, leaves $1700 in the kitty for miscellaneous needs.
Wonderful sounds and the way I used to drive until I wised up:

Yes, I have space in my garage and it's killin' me! and there is this John Cooper Works mini down the road for cheap money.
It's like having a model engine around that needs TLC, or trying to pull a few more rpms out of a Black Widow or .049 TD.

And so goes the circle of life for the model engine collector, you spend years acquiring all your little jewels then your heirs sell your crap on eBay! Anyone want to buy my stuff before I croak?

How true Eric, and CB you have some mint very desirable stuff. You could sell it all and retire to Florida. Oh, forgot your already there.
When I get old and used up I might join you. Our best days were in Florida.

I hear you can make a small fortune buying and selling model engines.
But only if you start with a large fortune
