Re: Cox starting kit...
Thanks for the welcome. Had a cox dragster back in late 60's..and loved it. Was browsing ebay, happened to see some vintage cox cars and planes for sale. Thought I might get back into it a little. Yes, need a kit, when I say starter kit, I mean kit to start engine. Battery, glow plug clip, primer bulb, maybe some fuel line, and fuel..can u give me a part number or website where I can find these things that will work with an 049 engine? And maybe somewhere i can get some quality fuel? Again thank you

Re: Cox starting kit...
Haven't bought an engine or anything to put it in yet. Thought I'd start with the basics. Can u recommend a good all purpose engine? I have a limited budget, dont want to spend a fortune. Do I need different engine if it goes in a plane, or do they work for both car and plane, obviously I'd need a propeller if it goes in a plane, just not sure if prop can adapt to any engine.

I can't help you with fuel unless you're in Australia As long as it has 15% or more nitro and a high percentage of oil. (20% or more). Some castor oil content is always good for Cox engines.jbanes1961 wrote:Haven't bought an engine or anything to put it in yet. Thought I'd start with the basics. Car and plane Cox engines are different to some extent, but can me made to work. (A car engine can be modified for a plane but a plane engine would be more difficult to adapt to an original Cox car.)
To get the feel for running engines, it's probably best just to go for an .049 Babe Bee. It has the fuel tank built in so you basically just mount it, fuel it, start 'er up and go. Of course, if you're willing to mess around with fuel tanks, a Cox Surestart will be easy & cheap to pick up off ebay.
For parts and accessories, try Cox International or Ex Model Engines.
(Click on their name).

Welcome to CEF! Just wanted to say that the others above have put you with great resources, and a great offer at a running engine. We're here for any other questions you may have as well. A location would also help as there may just be someone near you that we may be able to recommend.

WELCOME TO THE C.E.F. !!!!!!
Also I've got some Sig 25% on back-order. They were giving me about a month to ship it. On the other hand, I got 6 quarts of 10% shipped within a day. So, they are still up and going.
Don't know about 15%-20%...whih will run a Babe Bee just fine.
Waiting for some go-juice Kim

RE: Cox Starting kits
Eric,
Try Fitz fuels on eBay. He usually sells quarts in 25% (sometimes several other percentages) once or twice a month.
Top notch product and great shipping.

Just wanted to note that this evening, I received my 4 Quarts of 25% from Sig. A little bit of a wait, but they are here now. Came out to 58.79 to get the four bottles to my front door here in South East Missouri.

Excellent price Kim. I just bought some Fitz fuel and the shipping put it way over the top. The shipping per qt was more than the fuel. I miss the days of going to our local hobby shop and purchasing gallons of Sig 35%.

Yeah, once in a while, Shaeffer's Hobbies in St. Louis will suddenly have some Sig 10% or higher show up on their shelves...sometimes in gallon jugs...and I hog them all out of there!
Funny thing (or maybe not)..."back in the day" we didn't know one fuel from another, except that some cans were cheaper than others...so our poor engines were force-fed all kinds of stuff!

Brodak sells Brodak and Ritch's Brew. I highly recommend Ritch's Brew over the Brodak. Unfortunately, out of stock. It's also better to call Randy Ritch direct vs sending a e-mail due to him never returning one.
