My ebay plastic airplane swan song
This is it. Last one! I have way to many plastic control line airplanes.
Sniped last night at the last second the seller this morning offered a "second chance" through ebay of course. Reading the sellers ad I think he may have several of these.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Testors-SOPWITH-CAMEL-Gas-Powered-Bi-Plane-NOS-Unused-IN-BOX-airplane-/383183198392?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=b4oeSSOnkqL9vowt5QWh2peY20M%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=NC
I was pretty happy with my previous $15.50 Testors Camel and couldn't pass up one complete with accessories and fuel.

I just saw that Eric, he has a couple of Rat Fink items. Hasn't relisted another Camel though, maybe I bought his last one. Makes you wonder how he came about all of those... Maybe he buys out warehouses, got the transactions 21K+
Looks like I overpaid for critter!. Oh well, it's only money he said with a groan.
But the seller did send me a $17 refund for "the second offer." I have never seen that before. Got a buck refund from ebay too.

Good thinking, Bob. We were talking intervention.

Wow. Tell me that the green mustang is not the same one that was just yellow. That looks amazing! Also, that was the thought that I wanted to do to mine as well. Strip it and paint it. Now seeing yours makes me want to do it even more.

Thanks Chancey, but I confess I only posted the most appealing pictures. Check this:
Notice the gap between the forward engine cowl and the fuselage. Fits fine without the engine, not so fine with the engine installed. Going to need some fitting. Can't let it stay that way.
Also the belly pan's alignment/securing studs receptacle on the fuselage is broken off. Going to fit a balsa separator between the two half's and drill a hole through both and fit a 2/56 machine screw to pull them together. Only way reliably to do it. Going to do it on the other side too for balance.
And the upswept horizontal stab on the left side has a decided upward sweep. No rest for the weary.

Krylon Italian Olive. Tastes great and drives the ladies wild if you put a little behind each ear.
Story in pictures.
2/56's snugged that belly pan right up to the fuselage like the pegs never did. Still have to snip off the bitter ends.
Got to live with the gap in the nose. The main pylon that locks the bell crank is the culprit. No way to adjust that without ruining the model.
Thought I would hate the 2/56's (first picture) but it gives it a mechanical look. Just drilled right through the existing mounts. Made a tail skid for it. Modular, fits right in a recess, no glue or drilling.

I like the repair and the Krylon paint is in my opinion better than the Rusty-olem

Only if prison industry.
On a related subject.
I received those four for $9.99 "Diecast" Testors Spads. Ya, Christmas presents for the Grandkids. No help for the Testors Camel in the wheel department as I sort of thought.
Not diecast metal, but plastic. Nicely done though. Pegs and nine screws hold them together. Well designed, none of the screws show. It will be interesting to see if the boys (7 - 9 - and 13) can figure out how they go together.
WW1 era French Spad, as I have mentioned before my first model airplane build, a Quillows stick model back in the forties. The Grumman AD-6, later A1 a Cox model pictured below it was also called a Spad by the pilots.

Hmm, this is funny, pictures didn't send. Try this.
Deleted the second run of pictures. I'm sorry for the confusion Jacob, got caught in a forum maintenance moment.

I'm not familiar with that site Rod. Yes, someone got a heck of a deal. Staying away from temptation.
