Postage stamp backplate mount?

Re: Postage stamp backplate mount?
This is my experiment with the postage stamp type mount. it is machined from 1 inch aluminum square tubing. The bolt pattern for the mount is the same as the tanked Bees. After all this I found that I have about half a dozen or more of the white and some red horseshoe backplates with the fine thread needle. So using this mount is moot unless it is used on a plane that has a tanked Bee bolt pattern on the firewall. I might try it with a bladder set up.

I think your mount is nicely configured. I tried bending up a two part mount using 6061 T-6 and while it did work, it cracked on the radius. Seeing that your tubing is extruded, I don't feel that would be an issue. Very cool. Ken

Re: Postage stamp backplate mount?
Oh yes that's a cool mount, addict!
I was thinking of using pieces of aluminum bar that I'd drill and mill (I wish) or file in such a profile that they would fit to the backplate and extend above or to the sides of the backplate and the extending parts would have the mounting bolt holes. Kinda like the ones Roddie made but from a solid billet instead of bending to avoid the stress fractures. Never got enough round-toits gathered to do that.
I like your solution, very well thought of

Re: Postage stamp backplate mount?
Thanks guys,
After all the planning and work, I found that I don't need the mounts at this time. If any one wants one, PM me. I have 2 to send away.
Cheers

These mounts also act as a girdle to help seal the plastic backplate, which is prone to warping and leaking in air.

Re: Postage stamp backplate mount?
The mounts were mailed out to a couple of CEF members. Unfortunately sending one to Canada was cost prohibitive. So if you can get some 1 inch aluminum square tubing you can fabricate one with a hack saw, drill press, rotary tool and files. I'm posting a rough drawing of the dimensions. Where there's no measurement it's the stock 1 inch. You can convert some of the dimensions to fractions if it will make it easier for you. The square hole on the firewall mount side is optional. you can just drill a large hole if you want. Also the slots on the sides are also optional as the weight savings are minimal. Sorry the measurement 1.65" should be 1.065"
Thanks

Here is my postage stamp mount thanks to Coxaddict
Here is my mount in use thanks to Coxaddict. I just had to put it to use to show off my new engine for some type of car, plane or boat. I haven't figured that part out yet.
